60 Sports Icon Awards: Voting extended till Wednesday

Due to popular demands, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development has extended the voting for the 60 Sports Icons Awards to Wednesday, September 30, 2020.

Owing to this, the National Secretariat of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) wants use this opportunity to urge our members across the country to participate in this novel initiative.

Therefore, who is that your preferred sports personality that has thrilled you in the past 60 years? Vote for him/her to earn the glory he/she deserves.

Recall that the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development has as part of events to mark Nigeria’s 60 years independence, introduced this laudable initiative to honour 60 Nigerians who have excelled in the past 60 years.

The Minister of Sports, Mr. Sunday Dare and other top government officials will be on hand to accord these Icons the honour and respect they truly deserve.

Who are your top 60 sports icons of the last 60 years? This is the time to celebrate our sports heroes and heroines.

You can choose them from Football, track and Field, boxing, wrestling, tennis, basketball, weightlifting, volleyball, handball, Taekwondo, hockey, judo, and golf among others.

The parameters for qualification include: The athlete must be an Olympics medalist, commonwealth games medalist, Nations Cup medalist, World champion and African Champion.

Also, there is the Pacesetters category for the likes of; Teslim Balogun, Hogan Bassey, Omawunmi Majekodunmi, Ernest Okonkwo, Larry Izamoje, Babatunde Oshuntolu (SB), all fall under Pacesetters categories who can also be voted for.

Simply vote those sports men and women that have excited you the most in the last 60 years. The ball is in your court to determine Nigeria’s 60 superstars of the last 60 years.

Remember that voting has now been extended to midnight of Wednesday, September 30, 2020.
