Abruka Queens appreciates all, after winning first FA Cup

The Founder and Matron of new comers, Abruka Queens Football Club, Hajia Segilola Alaya has pledged to continue to use the platform to improve the lives of girl-child in the state, even as she commended female football stakeholders in the state for their support.

 

 

Abruka Queens FC on Tuesday edged Moje Queens FC 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw at full-time, to win the State FA Cup. The team had earlier beaten Abimbola Queens, also on penalties, in the semi-finals.

 

 

Hajia Alaya praised the team for blaizing the trail, as they beat favourites, Moje Queens to clinch their first FA Cup trophy, at the final decided at the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

 

 

“I want to thank Almighty Allah and my husband, for the opportunity to contribute to the development of the girl-child through football, and also hope to sustain the tempo.

 

 

“I want to thank the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his support to the development of female football. My appreciation also goes to the Executive Chairman of the Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji, the FA Chairman, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa and his Board members, Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka and most importantly, late Mallam Busari Ishola, for supporting the cause of female folks in football.

 

 

“I thank the players and the technical crew for their sacrifice and support.

 

 

Also speaking, the President of the Club, Mallam Mohammed Abdullahi and the Vice President, Ibrahim Yusuf praised the team for achieving such a feat within the shortest period of their reign, adding that “the whole team has been wonderful”.

 

 

Their first major participation in organized competition was in 2021, when they participated in the NWFL Nationwide Play-off, took part in the Soccer Stars Championship and Maria Olagunju memorial female soccer competition in Offa.

 

 

This year, they participated in the NWFL Play-off in Benin, and the State FA Cup, which they won after beating Moje Queens of Erin-Ile.
