The Team Manager, Adamawa United Football Club, Mr. Pwavi Moline, has described as unfortunate, the robbery attack on the team bus on Friday evening along Benin bye pass.
Narrating the ordeal to the club’s media, the Team Manager said: “We left Yola on Thursday afternoon ahead of our NPFL matchday eleven clash against MFM in Lagos.
“You know it’s a very long journey from Yola to Lagos, so we had to pass our night in Wukari in Taraba state and continued the journey on Friday morning.
“There were eight officials in the bus, including myself (TM) and eighteen players.
“On getting to the Benin bye-pass around seven (7) O’clock in the evening (on Friday), some armed men came out of the bush and started shooting sporadically into the air, and were heading toward our direction.
“They ordered our driver to stop, which he did.
“We explained to them that we are a football team going to Lagos for a match, but they said they wanted to prove it, so they searched everyone of us, and said they won’t touch us since we are footballers, but they carted away all our belongings, especially handsets and our feeding allowances.
“They also wisked away our driver, Kabiru Mohmmed.
“The assailants were heavily armed and looked like foreigners.”
The Team Manager added that they were left perplexed in that situation while waiting for help to come.
He said after making contacts with relevant authorities, they had to continue the journey as the team’s mechanic, Mohammed Mustapha, who was part of the trip, took the driver’s responsibility by driving them to lagos.
“We are now in Lagos state”, he said.
Pwavi described the robbery experience as harrowing and prayed that the attackers would see the urgent need to release the abducted driver.
“It’s unfortunate what has happened to us. It’s not a good experience at all, and psychologically, we are distraught already.
“We were between life and death. We don’t know where they have taken our driver to, we are scared for his life.
“We hope they don’t harm him”, the Team Manager said.
Adamawa United would play MFM FC of Lagos on Sunday, 21st February, in the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League fixture.
