Kwara United FC and Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) today played out a goalless draw in the last group game of the on-going Prince Dapo Abiodun Pre-Season tournament in Ijebu-Ode, as both ended up picking tickets for the next round.
It was a game that brought out the best out of Kwara United FC who, though dominated play in both halves, failed to score, despite numerous chances created.
It was also a bad day for the team, as two players went out injured in the first half. Defenders Jide Williams and Taiwo Salaudeen got injured in the 24th and 38th minutes respectively, forcing the team to change tactics.
Bashir Monsuru and Issa Gata were drafted in as replacements, while Kabir Balogun was withdrawn to the defence.
Despite the forced changes, Kwara United FC sustained their dominance, with 3SC taking advantage of ocassional breakthrough, which was perfectly contained.
The only clear chance for 3SC came in the second half, hitting the upright after a well coordinated attack.
Danbani was also introduced in the second half, replacing Agboola Joshua, as the team sustained pressure on the Ibadan-based team.
The negative reactions of the 3SC bench, especially to referees’ decisions earned Coach Edith Agoye a red card.
With the draw, both 3SC and Kwara United FC have qualified for the next round on five points each, with 3SC coming first on goal difference of plus four, against plus three of Kwara United FC.
The other match in the group between Remo Stars and Nilayo FC also ended goalless, as Remo ended with three points, and Nilayo ending with just a point.
