The minister of youth and sports, Sunday Dare has officially inaugurated the 20th National Sports Festival COVID-19 Committee.
The inauguration ceremony is in partial fulfillment of one of the decisions of the Extra-Ordinary National Council on Sports, which took place virtually on May 18, 2020.
The Minister, while inaugurating the Committee, said he was reliably informed that the Committee had met once to consider its Terms of Reference as well as map out strategies to deliver on its mandates. This he says, underscores the quality of the membership and the determination of the Committee to ensure that assignment at hand is given the necessary urgency it deserves.
He went on to charge the Committee to vigorously pursue the task ahead, as, it is a national call to duty. So, together, I believe, we shall this overcome public health challenge.
The Committee Terms of Reference for are: To interface with all relevant Agencies to determine the COVID-19 infrastructure that must be put in place in order to host the 20th National Sports Festival before November, 2020; Ascertain the level of COVID-19 infrastructure put in place by the Edo State Government as well as requirements to manage any foreseeable crisis that may arise as a result of the organisation of the 20th National Sports Festival; Prepare a code of operations (COVID-19 Protocol) that would guide the athletes, officials, spectators, LOC, MOC and other relevant stakeholders towards the successful organisation of the 20th National Sports Festival, and Propose the date for the National Sports Festival.
In accordance with the decision of the National Council on Sports, they are expected to submit the report within 30 days from the date of the Extra Ordinary National Council on Sports.
The committee is chaired by Hon. Tonobok Okowa -Executive Chairman, Delta State Sports Commission.
