Parents and guardians have been urged to encourage their wards to go into sports as sports is now a money spinning business.

The Executive Chairman, Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Magaji made the call yesterday while fielding questions from journaliss at the Yucateco boxing trials held at Queen Elizabeth Secondary Schools, Ilorin.

Mogaji who hailed the initiative of organizers noted that one cannot get to the high level in sports without competitions like Yucateco boxing trials.

The Executive Chairman described sports as a unification tool that makes friends across ethnicity and religion.

Speaking further, Magaji said sports make him what he is today as he has never use his certificate to get a job saying the assistance he is putting in sports today is by way of giving back to sports.

He called on cooperate bodies and we’ll meaning individuals to venture into sports sponsorship as government cannot do it alone.

In his chat, the Director of Sports, Mallam Ibrahim Bako commended Yucateco Boxing Promotions for bringing their Boxing League season two trials to Kwara state.

Bako noted that Kwara state used to be a force to reckon with in boxing as it has produced Olympics medalist in the past.

He pointed out that with boxing events and outfits like Yucateco Boxing Promotions, hope is on the horizon that the glorious days in boxing is coming back to Kwara state.

The Director of Sports expressed optimism that with boxing events as this, the state is sure to produce medalists at the National Sports Festival that could in turn represent the country at the Olympics.
