FA Cup: I’m excited, lifting my first trophy as a coach – Coach Ijaiya

The Interim Head Coach of Kwara United Football Club, Coach Lookman Ijaiya has expressed delight at winning his first trophy as a coach, even as he commended his Assistants for their overwhelming support.

 

 

Kwara United FC won the 2022 edition of the State FA Cup in a rare circumstance against Abubakar Bukola Saraki Ilorin Football Club, at the Main-Bowl of Kwara State Stadium Complex on Tuesday.

 

 

Heavy downpour had threatened the game but both sides were eventually called to the pitch as it ended goalless at half time.

 

 

As a result of the ‘Force Majure’ and with the consent and agreement of the two teams, match officials and the Organizers, the game was halted in the second half because of weather conditions, which resulted to a toss of coin and it went in favour of Kwara united FC as winners.

 

 

“I feel excited and very happy winning the trophy as a coach. I won it as a player. I have been dreaming of this for a very long time.

 

 

“Holding the FA Cup trophy brought back that sweet memory of my playing days, especially when I win trophies. I can never forget this day. It’s a very memorable day in my life.

 

 

“I will want to use this opportunity to thank the management, the players, my Assistants and other backroom staff for their support.

 

 

“My target now is to make meaningful impact at this year’s Aiteo Cup competition. Kwara United has not won it before, and I feel with the caliber of players we have presently, and the right atmosphere and with motivation, we can get it right”, he added.
