Goaless draw against Gombe United disappointing – Coach Azeez

Gombe United FC this evening forced Kwara United FC to a goalless draw in their very first match of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Lekan Salami Stadium, with Coach Abdulazeez Mohammed describing the result as disappointing.

Kwara United FC started the game on a fine note, but Gombe United FC took the inititive, forcing Kwara United to make mistakes, especially in the midfield, with goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka forced to make a crucial save midway into the first half.

The second half looked promising for Kwara United, who forced Gombe United goalkeeper into ocassional actions, but the visitors also fought back intermittently, and came close in few occasions.

“Definitely, we are disappointed with the result. Even though we had a good game, we always have problem with our last touches, and couldn’t also convert the chances we created”, Coach Abdulazeez Mohammed said.

“We should not be giving excuses, but try to work on the lapses ahead of subsequent games, knowing fully well that we are playing Abridged League, which is like a knockout game. Gombe United FC proved that they are equally not a pushovers.

He added that the next game against Shooting Stars Sports Club, who are are homers is going to be difficult.

For Coach Ali Zubair of Kwara United FC, the away draw in Ibadan is good for his team, admitting that it doesn’t come easy.

“We expected that it was going to be like this, and it did occur. It was a good game, and a good result for us. It doesn’t come that easy”, he said.

“With my team, we don’t have home or away. We came here with a mission, and we are happy going home with a point, which is massive.
