Golfers storm Ilorin for Ladies Open

About 100 golfers from Golf Clubs across the country are set to take part in the forthcoming 6th Ilorin Ladies Open Golf Championship to be staged in compliance with the Covid-19 protocols and regulations.

Briefing newsmen, the Lady Captain of Ilorin Golf Club, Mrs. Iyabo Ayinde said the competition will commence on Thursday 25th of March 2021, with the Veterans, Men and Special Categories of Ladies in order to reduce the traffic on the course.

And on Friday 26th of March, the main event for the Ladies will tee-off and rounded up on Saturday 27th of March 2021, with the 3rd day play and presentation of prizes to winners at the closing ceremony billed for the Ultra-Modern Mohammed Lawal Club House of Ilorin Golf Club.

The Grand Matron of the Ladies Section of the Club, the wife of the Governor of Kwara State, Mrs Olufolake AbdulRahman is expected to tee-off the championship with the ceremonial tee-shot on Saturday 27th March 2021, and on hand for the closing ceremony same day.

Expected to be on her entourage is the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Barrister Iyabo Banire and the Deputy Chief of Staff Government House, Princess Bukola Babalola.

From the golfing community, the Zonal Vice President (West), Ladies Golfers Association of Nigeria (LGAN) Mrs Chichi Charles Alamu and her counterpart from the Northern Zone, Rachael Danjuma will be representing the National President of the body, Susan Adesola at the event.

Players to look out for include Amina Wilfred from Kaduna Golf Club, the defending champion Evelyn Oyome from Ikeja Golf Club, Shade Opawunmi from Shagamu Golf Club, and Hannah Obadina from Tiger Golf Club, Ibadan, not leaving out home hopefuls in the likes of Evlyn Balogun and Iyabo Ayinde.

The competition, which is being sponsored by the Kwara state government and supported by Yolas Consultants Limited, will see Men golfers play as guest.

In his remark, the Captain of Origin Golf Club, Chief Ray Okafor said the Ladies section of the Club is being giving the necessary support to ensure a hitch-free and memorable competition.
