Governor AbdulRazaq inspects squash and handball courts in Ilorin

Kwara state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has expressed satisfaction over the level of work done at the ongoing squash court at the Kwara State Stadium Complex yesterday.

The Governor disclosed this during his visit to the construction site of the squash court and renovation of handball courts in Ilorin, Kwara state.

Governor AbdulRazaq told sports journalist  that the new squash court will attract national and international tournament when completed.

The former squash player revealed that his administration is also renovating the old squash located beside the newly constructed court.

He said, “I am impressed with the level of work done by the contractors on site. I got their assurance that the squash courts will be completed before the end of April 2021. We are not going to abandon the old court; I have directed the concerned authorities to commence the renovation”.

Governor AbdulRazaq revealed that the state government is ready to host the National U-19 Handball Championship in March.

He said, “For the handball, we are going to hold a national championship in March and we are trying to prepare for that. We want to be ready for the event because our girls are the champions of the U-21 Championship and Women’s Champion of the Prudent Energy Handball League too”.

Responding, the Director of Sports, Mallam Ibrahim Alarape Atanda said the inspection of the ongoing squash court and renovation of the handball court means a lot to sportsmen and women in the state

He said the Governor has the interest of the youth at heart and that is why he is investing in the construction of sports facilities across the state.

He said, “If you look at the individuals participating in sports, 98% of them are youths and when you are into sports one can earn a living as an elite athlete. The Governor is interested in making champions in the state that is why you can see him embarking on construction of sports facilities in the state”.
