Grassroots sports development, our priority -Kolo

Kwara state Commissioner for Sports and Youth development, Mrs Joana Nnazua Kolo has again reitrated the commitment of the State government in promoting sports development at the grassroots.

She stated this in Tsaragi at just concluded final of the maiden edition of Governor’s Table Tennis Championship, 2020.

Mrs Kolo commended the organiser for staging the first of its kind tourney in her hometown, and encouraged all the participants to explore all kinds of sporting activities to their advantage by drawing inspiration from others who have succeeded through it. 

In his remarks, CEO of Silverwall Consult and the Organiser of the tourney, Olufemi Olabode thanked the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for providing the enabling environment to transform their dream into reality, adding that the company was encouraged by the persistent determination and commitment of the state to develop sports at the grassroots level.

He further revealed the plan of his company to organise a table tennis league in the state as soon as  talks are concluded with major sponsors and other relevant stakeholders.

Emir of Tsaragi, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu Kpotu, who was represented by Makama of Tsaragi expressed their gratitude to the Governor and Commissioner for finding the town worthy of hosting the championship, a development he said, has never happened before and will equally forever be cherished. 

The event which featured different categories of contests; from Senior category and Junior category also witnessed exhibition and commemorative games to the excitement of the guests and spectators present at the spectacle.

The Championship,organised by Silverwall Consult with the support of Sportspro News, the Media Partner, was aimed at unearthing talented players from the community and groom them to become professionals.

Some of the guests at the ceremony includes, Chairman Kwara State House of Assembly Service Commission, Hon. Femi Yusuf, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Barrister Iyabo Banire, Director of Sports Council, Kwara State, Coach Alarape Atanda, ace Sportscaster, Bayour Issah, Director of Personnels Management (DPM) of Edu and Ifelodun Local Governments, and a host of others.
