A University Don, Dr Khadijat ‘Toyin Musah, who is also a Board member of Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) has called on Proprietors, School Principals and students to embrace the game of cycling as a way of exercising the body and develop mental alertness in their quest to build a successful career in the nearest future.
The call was made yesterday, at the preliminaries of the maiden edition of KTM Kwara State Schools Cycling competition held at the Sports Complex of Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin.
Dr Khadijat Musah, who supretends the Foundation as Director General appealed to all the participating schools to embrace and accept the unique opportunity provided by KTM Foundation to discover talented cyclists that will be camped, selected and nurtured to represent the state in various national and international cycling races.
She expressed her delight on the large turnout of cyclists from Kwara Central, with over 48 Primary, Junior and Senior Secondary Schools that took part in the colourful event which attracted major stakeholders in the sports industry.
She expressed her gratitude to the Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU) for his support towards a successful tourney.
32 new cyclists passed the trial test according to the technical officials led by Coach Adisa Alabi, Garba Musa and Lukman Lawal, who is the Head Coach of Kwara State Cycling Association.
At the end of the cycling race witnessed by sports personalities in the state, Principals of the host school, Hajia Lawal Sidikat Taiye (Senior Section) who gave a goodwill message commended the organisers for the laudable project to tap talent in various schools, adding that she made it a point of duty to procure bicycles for her students so that the institution will be a force to be reckon with in Nigeria.
In his remark, the Chairman of the Kwara State Cycling Association, Alhaji Sheu Sholagberu Lawal called on corperate firms, philanthropists and wealthy individuals to partner KTM Foundation in driving the dream of putting Nigeria in the world map of cycling.
The KTM cycling train will move to Offa, for the Kwara South edition of the schools trials on the 21st of February, 2022, where a courtesy call to the Monarch of the historical town of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Oloyede Esuwoye II, has been arranged.
