The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Emienbo Tuesday Assayomo has pledged the continued supports of the State Police Command to the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), in tackling crime using sports.
The Commissioner made this known today Thursday 19th August, 2021, while receiving in his office, the Chairman and members of the State Executive of the oldest grassroots sports development organisation.
The YSFON Chairman, Mallam Ademola Kiyesola, while welcoming the new CP to the State of Harmony, informed him of the 14th edition of Commissioner of Police soccer competition, which is currently ongoing at the state, and further explained that with the supports of AIG M.L. Bagega, the organization was able to commenced the tournament early last month.
According to him, this year’s edition is unique because of the addition of the U-17 category on the request of AIG Bagega while in Kwara as CP, to the already existing U-13 category, donated by former CP, M. D. Abubakar, while in Kwara in the year 2004. M. D. Abubakar later retired as IGP.
The YSFON Chairman informed the CP that the tournament had produced many soccer stars who are playing professional football within and outside the country.
The CP, while responding, thanked the Chairman and members of YSFON for the visit, and appreciated the organization for engaging the youth so as to cast away their minds from crimes.
He appreciated his predecessors who had contributed to youth and sports development in the state, thereby reducing crimes among the youth, adding that in his own part, he will also add his name by donating another trophy in addition to the existing one to be competed for by the female teams, and be named POWA CUP for Police Officers Wives Association among young girls in the state.
Meanwhile, the CP had directed immidiate deployment of mobile patrol teams to the stadium and its environment to provide security for the youth participating at the competition as he charged YSFON officials and members of the public to always gives securiy information to police promptly, to help them combat crime.
The CP promised to give support to the remaining parts of the tournament, and ensure it sustainability by adequate preparation for the next edition.
The 14th edition of Kwara CP Cup, which commenced with seminar on security talk by the Police has 42 teams participation for U-13 and U-17 categories.
Nine hundred and sixty-six players registered, one hundred and fifty seven officials are participating in the thirty one days of active football action. and two commissioners of police supported
The tournament will come to an end with grand finale and closing ceremonies on Tuesday 31st August, 2021, at the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
