Kwara United Football Club is set to make history in this season’s Federation Cup competition, after a successful battle against relegation in the ongoing 2022/2023 Abridged Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), with victory over Nasarawa United.

Kwara United, against all odds, recorded a 1-0 victory against Nasarawa United in the Matchday 17 of the NPFL at the Akure Township Stadium on Sunday, to create enough gap at the bottom of the table, away from the drop zone.

The team now has 17 points from 17 matches, and still in the 8th position, four points ahead of Nasarawa United who are in the 9th position with 13 points, ahead of the last matches in the group.

The General Manager of the club, Bashir Badawiy, said that with that battle fought and successfully won, attention will now shift to the Premier Cup competition in Nigeria, the Federation Cup.

Kwara United is expected to square up against Ikorodu City in the Round of 32 of the competition at the Osogbo Township Stadium on Wednesday, May 10th, 2023, beginning from 4.00pm.

Kwara United defeated Gateway FC of Abeokuta 4-2 on penalties after playing out one-all draw at regulation time in the Round of 64.

Badawiy, who commended the State government, the State Sports Commission, Fans, Supporters and football stakeholders in the state for their support for the team, especially in the all-important match against Nasarawa United added that the team hopes to reciprocate the gesture with a good run in the Federation Cup.

He charged the players and the coaching crew to brace up for the challenges ahead in the competition, even as he reminded them to approach the remaining fixtures with utmost seriousness it deserves.

He praised the players for putting up a spirited performance in the Nasarawa United encounter.
