Kwara United retains Federation Cup, visits Emir of Ilorin tomorrow

Kwara United Football Club this evening defeated Abubakar Bukola Saraki (Ilorin) Football Club 4-2 on penalties, after a goalless draw at regulation time, to win this year’s Federation Cup.

The highly explosive encounter brought out the best from the two teams from the start of the match to the end, as they keep spectators on their toes with ocassional explosive moves, tackles, dribbles and anxious moments.

Kwara United had earlier beaten SGFC Athletics 3-2 in the semi-finals, while ABS FC defeated Foresight Academy 5-1, as the two teams won tickets to represent the state at the National finals.

Kwara United handler, Coach Kabir Sulaiman Dogo, who was former coach of ABS Ilorin FC expressed delight at winning his first trophy with the team, even as he commended the management, players and staffers of the team for their commitment.

He tasked the players to remain focused, as there are serious challenges ahead in the ongoing Abridged league, as well as the National Federation Cup competition, pointing out that the state would need to work hard to make impact in this year’s edition.

Kwara United ‘s Sanni Faisal was picked as the Most Valuable Player of the final match.

Kwara Ladies Football Club equally defeated Moje Queens of Erin-Ile 2-1 to win the Female Federation Cup, as the two teams are also expected to represent the state at the National finals.

Among the dignitaries present at the final are the Senator for Kwara North Senatorial District, Senator Sadiq Umar, who gave the organisers N2million naira, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji, Kwara Pillar of Sports, Prince Oladimeji Ladi Thompson, the General Manager of Radio Kwara, Alhaji Kayode Aremu, Kwara FA Board members and others.

Kwara FA also used the opportunity to inaugurate the Chairmen and members of the eight committees recently constituted.

Meanwhile, Kwara United handler, Coach Kabir Sulaiman Dogo is expected to lead his team to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari MFR tomorrow, at his Palace.

Coach Dogo, who is the Mogaji of Odo-Okun is one of the Chiefs in the Emirate.

The team will present the Federation Cup trophy they won to the Emir, and also seek for his royal blessings ahead of the commencement of the second round of the ongoing Abridged League.
