Kwara wins silver, bronze in Osun table tennis tourney

Kwara’s Seun Oriyomi Raphael on Friday lost in the final of the 2nd edition of Hon. Hamed Nurudeen Oluwafemi table tennis tournament, after losing to Taofeeq Maya of Oyo state.

The invitational tournament, which held at the CDC Hall, Olorunda Local Government Area, Igbona, Osogbo had the two Kwara representatives, Seun and Sanni Abdulraheem making it to the semi-finals.

Led to the tournament by Coach Kehinde Aiyelabegan, the players showed class from the prelims, and ended up winning silver and bronze respectively.

In the quarter-finals, Seun defeated Shina Adeoti of Osun state 3-1. Also, Lateef Oyeniyi of Osun state defeated Mumini Adeshina 3-0, while the eventual winner, Taofeek Maya beat Olabisi Yusuf of Oyo 3-0.

Anither Kwaran, Sanni Abdulraheem beat Nurudeen Ganiyu of Osun 3-0, to advance to the semi-final.

The competition was being staged to assess the current strength of the players, and also improve their technical and tactical skiils.

It’s also to keep them in tune ahead of the forthcoming National Sports Festival, rescheduled to hold this year in Edo state. 
Coach Aiyelabegan, who tutored the team expressed satisfaction with their performance, even as he added that there are still rooms for improvement.
