La Planet SA wins Kwara State League, as stakeholders praise FA

La Planet Sports Academia yesterday defeated Gnosis Stallion 2-0 to win the 2021 Kwara State Super League, and a ticket to fly the state’s flag at the Amateur League play-off.

The highly explosive encounter, decided at the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex saw the winners scoring in each half, to ever-power the hard fighting Gnosis Stallion FC.

Obagbemiro Emmanuel scored the first goal in the 33rd minute off a corner kick inside the box, and the goal woke up the Stallion boys who pilled pressure on La Planet, but were denied by poor marksmanship.

The winners again rose to the occasion, and their efforts paid off in the 88th minute, when Olalekan Abiodun got the second goal, to seal the victory.

For the first time in many years, as much 52 youth clubs from virtually all the 16 Local Government Areas of the state participated in the competition, with the FA reaping the fruit of it’s grassroots football development campaign.

La Planet Sports Academia had earlier beaten JAD FC of Unilorin 4-1 in the semi-final, while Gnosis Stallion defeated Young Antlers 3-0 in the second semi-final.

The FA at the occasion, honoured some stakeholders who are contributing to the development of the round leather game in the state. They include the Chairman of Kwara United, Kumbi Titiloye, the club’s General Manager, Bashir Badawiy, Mallam Bolaji Umar, Hon Gbenga Yusuf, who is a member of Kwara House of Assembly Committee on Sports, the State Chairman of YSFON, Mallam Ademola Kiyesola and High Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka, the Nwachigoziri 1, the Secretary of the NPFL Club Owners Association.

Others who also received medals of honour are Mr Yusuf Abdullahi Adekunle, who is the Proprietor of AbraySports FC, Alhaji Afase Babatunde Saliu, who owns Gidado FC, Kwara State Director of Sports, Mallam Ibrahim Alarape Atanda, the Stadium Manager, Wale Obalola, Engr Laide Ahmed, Proprietor of Ayokunnu Pharmacy, Chairman of Coaches in Kwara, Mallam Tunde Sanni, and the Chairman of Kwara SWAN, Jimoh Bashir.

The stakeholders, all of whom commended the FA for it’s efforts at taking football to the grassroots, pledged to continue to support the football controlling body in the state, even as they commended the teams that participated for displaying the spirit of sportsmanship.

In his remarks after the final, the FA Chairman, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa commended the state government, the Ministry of Sports, Kwara State Sports Council and other stakeholders, for their support.

He pledged that the FA will continue to break new grounds with new innovations that will add value to football development, especially at the grassroots.
