Mid Season: NFF President parleys Premier League Referees, restates better welfare for Match Officials

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has admonished Premier League Referees to continue to be of good conduct while on duty at various league centers. 

Alhaji Gusau addressed the referees during the Day 1 activities of NPFL referees in Abuja on Wednesday.

NPFL referees on Tuesday commenced Mid Season Seminar and Workshop meant to not only review their performances but also put them in a better shape for the new season. The program which ends on Saturday will afford the FIFA referees from Nigeria opportunity to undertake their mandatory quarter medical and physical fitness tests on Thursday. 

The NFF President said that the federation places premium on the growth of Nigeria’s football through a better refereeing climate.

Alhaji Gusau further added that the new innovations concerning improved welfare are meant to motivate the match officials to attain greater heights.

Chairman of the NFF Referees Committee, Rtd FIFA Faith Irabor while reassuring the federation of her committee’s resolve  to operate within the global practice framework in management of the referees enjoined those listed for the season to conduct themselves in acceptable manners that will correspond to fair play and firm officiating expected of them. 

Other members of the NFF Referees Committee present at the parley were the vice Chairman, Alhaji Musa, HRH Oba James Odeniran, Alhaji Abba Gawe, Abraham Zakowi, and Bello Abubakar Sokoto. A member of the committee, C. C Chukwujekwu (Fifa rtd) is  unavoidably absent as he is presently outside the country handling CAF duty as an Assessor for one of the AFCON Qualifiers this week. 

While the technical instructors crew has on ground, retired FIFA Peter Edibe, CAF trained referees coach and international Assessor, another former FIFA referee and exponent of physical fitness training, Engr Emmanuel Imiere is also leading the instructors for the physical fitness aspect of the program.
