Michael Imuodu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS) on Saturday commissioned it’s sports facilities, kits and equipment, a gesture that the Director General of the Institute, Comrade Issa Aremu says, was aimed at making members of staff fit for challenges at work.

The commissioning was part of the activities marking the monthly keep fit exercise for the month of December, as Comrade Aremu said that MINILS aims to midstream sporting activities into the curriculum of the institution.

“The whole idea is that, workers should be all-round. It’s not just work, but combination of work with fitness exercise, because you can’t really put in your best if you aren’t properly fit”, he said

“We have brought back our football field, tennis court, volleyball court as well as equipment and kits for other games like table tennis, draft, ayo, chess board and others, asides the monthly keep fit exercise which we have institutionalized.

The equipment and kits were commissioned by Coach Issa Saliman, who has been saddled with the responsibility to coordinate the sporting activities of the institution.

The former Kwara United FC Coach also had the opportunity to talk about his book, “Football Development in Kwara State” which he just launched, and his experiences, which motivated him to write the book.

The Novelty match between the management and staff of MINIL and the Youth Corp members was won by institution, with the Director General getting the only goal of the match from spot kick after he was fouled in the vital area.

Earlier, the keep fit exercise and lecture was coordinated by Pharmacist Amid Olanrewaju Alege of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.

In his lecture on Diabetes Mellitus, he said that 100 years after the discovery of insulin, millions of people with diabetes around the world cannot access the care they need, as those with the disease require ongoing care and support to manage their condition and avoid complications.

He said that five category are recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO), and that early symptoms includes frequent urination, excessive thirst, blurred vision, tiredness, unusual weight loss, tingling or numbness in the hands and feet, sores or bruises that heals slowly, which may show up together.

Pharmacist Alege, who advised seeing the doctor for check-up if any of these is noticed urged that as much as possible, junk or processed food should be avoided.

He said that home made foods may lower the risk for type 2 diabetes, even as he recommended eating of leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, whole grains, lean meat, unsweetened yoghurts and nuts.
