The ongoing grassroots handball awareness programme, being championed by Mrs. Yemisi Monisola Makanjuola through her Foundation, MoniMak Global Foundation continues tomorrow in Omu-Aran Zone, where Sports Officers and students from selected schools are expected to participate.

The programme started in Ilorin, involving selected schools, and is expected to go round selected centres in the three Senatorial Districts.

Tomorrow, all the selected schools in Omu-Aran and its environs are expected to converge at Government Secondary School, Omu-Aran, to take both the theory and practical basic lessons in handball.

The one-day process will include both the Sports Officers and students, both male and female.

According to Mrs Makanjuola, who is representing the professionals on the Board of the Kwara State Sports Commission, the awareness programme will be used to select talented players from all the centres, and the selected players are expected to converge in Ilorin by March ending, when the final selection will be made.

She added that the whole idea was to pick new crop of U-12 and U-15 players for the state, ahead of the National Championship in Sokoto later in the year.

MoniMak Global Foundation is a Non-Governmental organization which explores the grassroots to discover, groom and give hope to talented youth in all sports.

Mrs Makanjuola was the first female softball coach in Nigeria and she is presently the 3rd Vice President of Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association, (NBSA) and Kwara State Vice Chairman for Association of Women in Sports (NAWIS).

She took part in First Nigeria U-12 handball championship, Ilorin, in 1981 and 1982 in U-15 handball championship, Minna, Niger state, as an athlete, and said her programme was a way of giving back to the society.
