The newly elected board member of the Scrabble Federation of Nigeria (SFN) from Kwara state, Aliyu Mayowa Kabir has described his election as a new dawn for scrabble in Kwara and Nigeria.
Mayowa, who is the Chairman of Kwara Scrabble Association got four votes out of seven, in a keenly contested scrabble election for North Central zone, comprising Kwara, Niger, Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi states and the FCT, on Wednesday in Jos.
According to him, “I see my election as a victory for us all and a challenge to me and us, to add more value to the game of scrabble in Nigeria as a whole, North Central Nigeria in particular, and Kwara state most definitely”, he said.
“I was selected because of the little but positive exploits I had in reviving the game of scrabble in Kwara state, to its old glory. I was enjoying the transformation but little did I know I was being monitored”.
“The trust reposed in me by scrabble pundits across Nigeria will not be broken. We must first be driven by the love for the game by giving more to scrabble (studying, playing, donating…), before we expect what scrabble would give back to us”.
Mayowa thanked all for their support, pledging to do more for the game.
Other Kwarans who won elections into various federations are Engr. Sulyman Warah (Badminton), Rashidat AbdulKareem (Dart), Femi John Ayorinde (Rowing), Yusuf Durosilohun (Squash) and Sulyman Angulu (Rugby).
Other Kwarans who also got spaces through affiliate bodies include Moni Makanjuola, NAWIS representative for kickboxing, Tunde Kazeem in badminton, Aiyelabegan in table tennis, Dr Steve Olarinoye, the Director General of Kwara State Sports Commission in weightlifting, Prince Bode Durotoye in chess, and Wale Obalola in cricket.
