Kwara state government says it will continue to play it’s role in the development of youths and sports within the available resources, even as it urged the youths to always be good ambassadors of their home and community.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq stated this yesterday, during the final matches of both the U-13 and U-17 Commissioner of Police soccer competition, at the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, in Ilorin.
Governor AbdulRazaq, who was represented by the Commissioner for Energy, Hon. Aliyu Kora Sabi observed that the youths constitute the bulk of Nigeria’s population, adding that there is the urgent need to engage them meaningfully, for sustainable development, national peace and stability.
Kwara Commissioner of Police, CP Emiembo Tuesday Assayomo commended the initiator of the competition, IGP Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, for planting a tradition that has not stopped since 2004.
He also appreciated his predecessor, AIG Mohammed Lawal Bagega, for sustaining the platform, and for also introducing the U-17 version of the competition.
He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his support to the development of the youths, and YSFON, for the organization of the competition.
State Chairman of YSFON, Mallam Ademola Kiyesola said that 43 youth teams participated in the U-13 and U-17 competitions, adding that the competition has produced numerous players, who have gone forward to make the state and country proud.
He thanked the state government for the support. He also commended the Kwara State Sports Commission and other stakeholders, for assisting the course of YSFON, and Nigerian youths.
New Talents FA defeated Kwara United Academy 4-3 on penalties, after playing out a one-all draw, while Marvellous FA won the bronze.
La Planet FA also defeated Young Atlas FA 3-0 in the U-17 final, as Kwara Football Academy outscored Petvic Soccer Academy 6-1 to win bronze.
The 15th edition next year will have a female version added to it, courtesy of the CP, Emiembo Tuesday Assayomo.
The colourful final ceremony was witnessed by Commandants and heads of Military and paramilitary formations in the state, all of whom commended the partnership between Kwara Police Command and YSFON, towards providing a veritable platform for the talented young footballers in the state.
Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq was honoured for his contributions to sports, and especially football development, alongside some selected football enthusiasts and stakeholders, including players who have gone through YSFON competitions in the past.
