The Nigerian Professional Footballers Wives Association (NPFWA) has called on authorities of football to make welfare and lives of their husbands more meaningful with improved welfare and insurance packages.
The forum gave the charge today in a release signed by the President, Ify Doosh Nwandu Ichull, and Secretary, Tonia Vincent Ogar to mark their first year anniversary.
It noted that their hubbies were less paid and not encouraged despite giving their all to the game.
On the issue of insurance, the forum called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and League Management Company (LMC) to hasten its implementation for their husbands to enjoy better lives like their foreign counterparts.
“We urge the NFF to use her good office to ensure our husbands (footballers) are being insured.
“Football has no pension, therefore, NFF, in collaborations with LMC can help the NPFL players. Salaries should be paid as at when due as most clubs don’t respect their contracts with players. We know LMC are trying, but they can do more.”
The forum that is made up of over 50 members, has been assisting members whose hubbies are finding it difficult to support the family due to non payment of entitlement and welfare from their respective clubs.
The spokesperson of the association, Mrs. Tosin Olorunleke Ojo, however enjoined other footballers’ wives to join the association to enjoy its benefits.
“NPFWA is a body that unites and developed footballers’ wives. We teach ourselves on how to be good wives, mothers and supportive.
“Business experience are being shared, there are also lectures on how to raise children, improved cooking skills, health tips, religious teaching, and most importantly, we have prayer sessions for our husbands, children and ourselves.
“We are looking into a future where footballers will no longer see themselves as rivals but brothers. If we the wives are sister’s keepers, we see no reasons why our husbands should not be in good terms,” she said.
