The Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji has expressed hope that Kwara will perform well in the ongoing National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta state.

Mogaji, while fielding questions from journalists yesterday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba explained that more medals are expected for team Kwara coming as the festival  progresses.

He said Kwara is getting into events of its stronghold like para-table tennis, squash, badminton, boxing and dart where more medals are expected.

He said it is too early in the festival to say Team Kwara will surpass the previous record but there are indications of good performance.

Commenting on the organisation of the festival, Mogaji berated the host state for staging a festival that is far below expectations.

He stressed that the state shouldn’t have accepted to host the festival when they knew they didn’t have the facilities to meet the expected standards.

“I am surprised that they have been winning festivals while they don’t have facilities.

The Kwara state Sports Commission boss  lamented the far distances of many venues from the stadium which he said, is a disadvantage to athletes.

As at yesterday, Team Kwara have won one gold, one silver and 17 bronze medals, with the hope to win .ore, as squash players are already in the medal range. More medals are still being expected from para-table tennis event. Cricket is also on course to add to the medal haul.
