President Federation Cup: Gov AbdulRazaq overwhelmed with joy for Kwara United’s victory

Kwara State Governor and Chairman of Nigeria Governor’s Forum, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has said that he is overwhelmed with joy with Kwara United’s victory in this year’s President Federation Cup final.

Kwara United yesterday, June 28, 2025, defeated Abakaliki FC 4-3 on penalties to win the Premier Cup competition, which also qualifies the team for the 2025/2026 CAF Confederation Cup competition.

The match, decided at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos ended in a goalless draw at regulation time.

Mallam AbdulRazaq, who also graced the final said that, “I’m overwhelmed with joy as I joined Harmony Boys of Kwara United to bring home the 2025 President Federation Cup, the first time any team from our state has ever won the prestigious trophy since 1967 when Kwara was created.

“I wholeheartedly salute the players, the coaching crew, the management of Kwara United, the Sports Commission, and our Supporters’ Club for this remarkable feat. I am particularly grateful to the people of our state, including Kwarans in the Diaspora, for their overwhelming support for the team.

“This win again testifies to the power of team spirit, discipline, determination, and grit.

“Our victory over the Abakaliki FC comes was historic. All of these go to show that our feats in different aspects are not a flash in the pan, but are deserving fruits of hard work and strategic investments in youth development, sports, education, and other key sectors of the economy.

I congratulate all Kwarans home and abroad on the achievements. We look forward to keeping our state in positive spotlights in Nigeria and across the world.
