Late Shooting Stars’ forward, Rashidi Yekini, was on Friday voted as Africa’s best goalscorer, beating Ghanaian legend, Anthony Yeboah to the honour.
The best between the duo was decided through a poll, organized by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), where the ex Super Eagles striker, emerged top.
The late Nigerian striker got 77.9 percent of the votes cast while the Black Stars’ legend got 22.1 percent.
Yekini is the 3rd Afcons” all time scorer and was the tournament’s highest goal scorers in two editions of the continent’s version of the World Cup.
Yekini, who was named Africa’s best player in 1993, scored Nigeria’s first ever goal at Mundial, scoring the opener in Nigeria’s 3-0 opening match win against Bulgaria at USA 94.
Ye-King, as he was nicknamed, scored a total of 164 goals in 253 club appearances and 37 goals in in 58 national team outings.
The Kwara State born goalador, died on May 4, 2012, in Ibadan, at the age of 48.
