A Sports and Vocational Training Institute, which is an emerging trend in the development of sports and economic growth will commence operations in Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara state next year.
This much was revealed by the SSA to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Grassroots Sports Development, Mr. Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye, who is championing the course alongside the Chairman of Kwara United Football Club, Kumbi Titiloye.
While speaking with sportsbash.com.ng at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on Friday June 27, 2025, ahead of the final of the President Federation Cup, the Founder of Smart City Football Club of Lagos said that the project is more or less a youth development revolution.
“What we are doing in Oro is a Sports Academy which has other departments that provides options for in-takes to shift from one aspect to the other conveniently, based on capacity and capability.
“We are building five different football pitches: natural grass pitches, Astro turfs, sandy pitches, as well as agriculture and computer department and a school.
“With all these in place, if you cannot cope with school, you go to football, and if you are not good in football, you go into aggro-sports or computer training in different settings.
“What we are trying to do is going to be the best in the country, and next year, we are planning to commence full operation.
While analysing Nigerian football, Adeboye said that the game has improved tremendously, even as he commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the organizers of all cadres of leagues and the referees, for doing a good job.
Adeboye added that the narrative is also being assisted by President Tinubu, whose passion for sports and youth development, he said, is making the difference.
“For the first time in the history of the National Sports Commission (NSC), they are working directly with the office of the President. It shows the passion President Tinubu has for sports.
