Following the recent unveiling of the official logo for the forthcoming National Principals Cup, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna says the revamped football competition will serve as an avenue of strengthening of the grassroots sports through identifying and nurturing of young talents that will become future champions in sports in the country.

Dr. Gawuna, who is also the President of the Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) made the assertion yesterday when he paid a visit to the Minister Of Sports, Mr.Sunday Dare in his office.

He said he is optimistic the event, which in the past has produced many household names in sports  will now bring back the glory days when Nigeria ruled a lot of sports categories not only within Africa but around the globe.

The Deputy Governor also commended the Federal Ministry of Sports for accepting to establish another stadium in Kano state, which he says, would enhance and promote sporting activities in the state.

Responding, the Minister of Sports, Mr. Sunday Dare said there are plans to expand the tournament to include other sports, apart from football.

He explained that the competition is organised by the Federal Ministry of Sports in collaboration with Hideaplus alongside other partners such as the YSFON, Nigeria Schools Sports Federation (NSSF) and All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS).

The Minister, while assuring of continued support and partnership also commends Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for his foresight in creating a Ministry solely for sporting activities in Kano State.
