Egyptian legend Mohamed Zidan has explained the comments he made about Liverpool FC duo Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah.

Earlier this year, the former Borussia Dortmund striker was quoted saying Klopp suggested that he would have been better than Salah if he didn’t lack professionalism.

Zidan worked under Klopp at German giants Dortmund between 2008 and 2012 – scoring 13 goals in 66 Bundesliga matches.

“I did not say that I am better than Salah,” Zidan, who is now retired, said when speaking on Egyptian TV channel Al Nahar.

“I said that Klopp told me that if I had the same commitment as he has, that I would have been better than what I was.

“I would have achieved a lot more. Maybe more than what Salah has achieved, if I had the same commitment and concentration on and off the pitch,” he added.

“I had lots of surgeries on my knees and my back, and that affected me a lot.”

Egyptian forward Salah is amongst the best players in the world having played an instrumental role in helping Liverpool win the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup and Premier League.

Zidan won two German Bundesliga titles with Dortmund and two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophies with Egypt.
