Over 800 players have been cleared by the Kwara state chapter of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) to participate in three categories of competitions, in the 16th edition of the State Commissioner of Police Cup competition, which kicks of on Tuesday August 5, 2025, in Ilorin.
This was arrived at after the body, on Saturday August 2, 2025, screened players presented by the participating teams in the competitions.
The three cadres of the competition are the U13, U17 and the Female Football Championships.
41 teams will compete for honours in the Kwara Commissioner of Police soccer tournament scheduled to kick-off with the opening ceremony at the Kwara Football Academy Pitch on Tuesday August 5th, 2025.
The teams are made up of twenty (20) U-13 Boys teams, sixteen (16) U-17 Boys teams and four (4) girls teams, competing for honours at the prestigious competition which is aimed at engaging the youths and redirect their minds away from social vices, and keep them fit always.
After supervising the exercise, the Chairman of YSFON in Kwara state, Mallam Ademola Kiyesola commended the teams for their conduct, even as he appreciated the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ọjọ́, for providing supports for YSFON.

He also praised the Police for their believe in using sports to fight crime among the youths.
The Chairman promised that YSFON will continue to partner with relevant stakeholders in developing the youths, while he also appreciated the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bolakale Adisa Magaji, for his encouragements and supports to the body in the state.
Meanwhile, the Officer in Charge of Sports of the Nigeria Police commended YSFON for bringing the youths together and appreciated the transparent and orderly manner the screening was conducted.
She assured the participants that the Police will provide adequate security throughout the tournament, and also give supports where necessary.
Commissioner of Police Cup, which began in 2004 remains a youth development platform where young ones are being exposed to competitive football and discipline through YSFON.
The opening ceremony of this year’s edition will take place at the Kwara Football Academy field on Tuesday August 5th, 2025 from 2.30pm
