The Management and entire family of Abubakar Bukola Saraki Ilorin Football Club (ABS FC) are deeply saddened to announce the passing of its former Welfare Officer, Joseph Igiri, who departed this life on Friday, December 20th, 2024.
Late Igiri passed away after battling a prolonged illness.
Igiri was a dedicated and committed member of the ABS Ilorin FC family during his tenure as Welfare Officer. His contributions to the club’s growth and development will never be forgotten.
“We commiserate with his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. May they find comfort in the fond memories of his life and legacy.
The club plans to observe a period of mourning and will announce plans for a befitting tribute in due course.
Equally, Kwara United Football Club has extended heartfelt condolences to the football community in Kwara State, particularly Igbo Traders Football Association (ITFA) and ABS Ilorin FC, following the passing of Joseph Igiri.
In a condolence message from the Club’s Chairman, Kumbi Titiloye, conveyed through the General Manager, Mallam Bashir Badawiy, Kwara United expressed deep sorrow over the loss, acknowledging Igiri’s exceptional contributions to grassroots football development.
“We thought our late brother Igiri was recuperating from his illness, not knowing he couldn’t survive the hurdles. We pray to God to grant him eternal rest and give his immediate family, friends, and associates the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” Badawiy stated.
The statement also extended special sympathies to the Director of Football at ABS Ilorin FC, Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka, noting that Igiri’s passing leaves a void that will be difficult to fill.
In another message, the Secretary General of Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) Alhaji Haruna Maigidansanma, was deeply saddened by the passing of Joseph Igiri, a former chairman of Igbo Traders Football Association (ITFA) Kwara State chapter and former Welfare officer of Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Ilorin FC.
Maigidansanma in a statement extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and associates of late Mr. Igiri.
“Igiri’s demise has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill. The football fraternity in Nigeria will miss his commitment and dedication to the game” Maigidansanma said.
Maigidansanma described late Igiri as an hard working football administrator who loved the game passionately.
“Personally, I will miss him dearly because he was a man who was down to earth. His humility and kindness were virtues that endeared him to many.
“We pray that God grants his family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May his soul rest in peace” Maigidansanma said.
