Kwara State Baseball Park, Adewole, Ilorin will ones again, come alive, as nine states and the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja) gets set to participate in the Honour Independent National Baseball League, which has been scheduled to hold in two stages within this year.

The competition, which will hold in a Round Robin League Format is being packaged by the Kwara State Baseball and Softball Association.

Briefing newsmen at the Kwara SWAN Secretariat today, Saturday March 29, 2025, the Vice Chairman of the Association, Yinka Adewusi said that the first stage will hold between April six to 12, 2025, when the ten states will be reduced to five based on performance and placement, ahead of the second stage in August.

The ten states that will participate are host Kwara, Lagos, Delta, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Niger, Abuja, Oyo and Bayelsa. Bayelsa state baseballers have already arrived Ilorin ahead of the hostilities.

Yinka commended the state Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for renovation the best Baseball Park in Africa, a gesture which he says, guarantees sustainability of the sport in the state and Nigeria, and also ensures effective grassroots development.

Speaking about the new wave on the sport in Nigeria, Yinka said that the new National Executive, which are made up of former players will change the naratives, and equally get the sport federated.

Also speaking about the preparedness of the Association ahead of the competition, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mallam Sanni Duro said that the Baseball Park has been put in shape, even as he commended the Executive Chairman of the State Sports Commission Mallam Bola Magaji for his support.

The competition will attract a star prize of N300,000, while the second and third place teams will get N200,000 and N100,000 respectively, asides medals and trophies.

Also among the entourage of the Association at the press briefing are the Secretary of the Association, Comrade Abdullateef Oloyin and Opeyemi Awojare.
