NPFL: Kwara United pips Nasarawa United by a lone goal, gets N1m reward

Kwara United returned to winning ways with a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Nasarawa United in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 31 encounter decided today, Wednesday March 26, 2025, at the Rashidi Yekini Main-Bowl of the George Agbazika Innih Stadium, Ilorin.

Lawal Abayomi scored in the 64th minute to secured the crucial three points for the Harmony Boys, as he expertly converting Junior Aimufua’s well-delivered cross.

Earlier in the game, Junior Aimufua, Shola AbdulRaheem, and Wasiu Alalade missed clear scoring chances, but their persistence paid off as Abayomi finally broke the deadlock.

Despite a solid performance from Nasarawa United, Kwara United held firm to secure the win.

Speaking after the match, Coach Tunde Sanni expressed concern over his team’s missed opportunities, but remained optimistic about improving as the season nears its conclusion.

He expressed delight that the victory will restore the lost confidence in the team ahead of their President Federation Cup match in Lafia on Wednesday, and the away game against Plateau United in Jos.

Coach Salisu Yusuf, who was optimistic that Nasarawa United will escape the drop at the end of the season said he was surprised that his team lost for the first time in eight games, and also doing so to Kwara United.

As a reward for the victory, the Vice Chairman of Kwara State Football Association, Bashorun Kayode Bankole gifted the team ₦1 million. The goal scorer, Abayomi Lawal won Cyteck Man of the Match award.

Kwara United now sits 10th on the NPFL table after 31 games and will face Plateau United next weekend in the league.
