Stakeholders in Kwara State sports sector, Hameed Adio and Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka, the Nwachigoziri 1, have called on members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State Chapter, to adhere strictly to the ethics of professionalism and desist from reacting to unnecessary rants capable of undermining the image of the association and the growth of sports in the state.
Former Kwara State SWAN Chairman, Hameed Adio (OLY) and Alloy Chukwuemeka, former national officer of the body jointly charged Kwara SWAN to remain steadfast in professionalism and disregard what they described as distractions capable of derailing the association’s focus, especially coming from ‘concerned stakeholders’ who cannot even identify themselves.
The duo urged SWAN to ignore what they termed rubbish publications credited to so-called concerned stakeholders.
They noted that such writings are often driven by mischief rather than genuine interest in the development of sports in Kwara State.
Hameed Adio emphasised that SWAN must rise above needless rants and provocations, insisting that responsible journalism demands facts, balance and restraint.
Adio further charged the association to continue to promote the new-found sports development initiatives of the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, noting that the ongoing investments in sports infrastructure, facilities and human capacity development deserve informed and factual coverage.
Speaking on the role of sports writers in nation building, Hameed Adio urged Kwara SWAN to remain focused on its core mandate of objective, balanced and responsible reportage.
He emphasized that constructive engagement, rather than emotional outbursts or unguarded commentaries, remains the hallmark of credible journalism.
According to him, sports writers play a critical role in shaping public perception and sustaining momentum for developmental policies through fair and accurate reporting.
Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka charged Kwara SWAN to look inward and remain guided strictly by the provisions of its constitution.
He warned that giving attention to inflammatory and unfounded publications would only weaken the unity and credibility of the body.
Alloy maintained that SWAN’s strength lies in its adherence to ethical standards, internal discipline and collective responsibility, urging members to focus on their professional duties rather than be distracted by external noise.
