AFA Football Academy picks positives from 2-1 loss to Kwara Football Academy

*Academy to wear solidarity band against Kwara United tomorrow

AFA Football Academy today, August 15, 2025, lost the first of their three scheduled friendly matches in Ilorin 2-1 to Kwara Football Academy, even as the team looks beyond the result.

The highly explosive encounter, which leaved to its billings was watched by a large crowd, which included the Administrator of Kwara Football Academy, Mallam Ibrahim Bako and the Proprietor of AFA Football Academy, Ambassador Aliyu Issa Aeidu.

The US-based entrepreneur and ex-player was impressed with the standard of play, especially the dedication and discipline put into play by his team.

AFA Football Academy drew the first blood in the early part of the first half, but gave away the lead, as the goalkeeper fumbled with a well taken free kick. They conceded another goal mid-way into the second half due to defensive mix up.

AFA Football Academy is based in Lafiagi, in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, and their schedule of friendly matches in Ilorin continues, as they are expected to play Kwara United tomorrow August 16, 2025, at Kwara United Pitch, opposite Outdoor Basketball Courts.

The players and officials of the Academy will wear solidarity bands against Kwara United, because of the security challenges in Kwara North. Ambassador Aeidu said that the bid was to show solidarity with the victims of the challenges.

Ahead of the game against Kwara United, a certified CAF Licensed Coach Educator, Coach Yusuf Salihu, popularly known as Sheedow will lecture the players on career path and discipline.

AFA Football Academy will also take on Abubakar Bukola Sàràkí Football Club of Ilorin on Sunday, from 4.00pm, at Kwara United Pitch.

AFA Football Academy was launched in February this year, as a football talent nurturing outfit, with dedication to cultivating local football talent and nurturing young individuals in their pursuit of professional aspirations, especially from the state.

The vision behind the initiative was to create a career pathway for the talented youths, especially in Lafiagi and it’s environs, to give back to the society and to check social vices.
