Budget: Kwara SWAN commends Gov AbdulRazaq on Offa, Lafiagi stadia

Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN), Kwara State Chapter, and other stakeholders in the state’s sports industry have commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over the 2025 budgetary allocation for sports.

Specifically, the proposed government expenditure for next year envisaged the reconstruction of Lafiagi and Offa Stadia, listing them as priorities.

In a statement made by Ayodeji Ismail, Chairman, Kwara SWAN, the move shows that the Governor AbdulRazaq understands, and is willing to tap into the youthful potentials in Kwara.

“Kwara State has consistently maintained fifth position at the National Youth Games (NYG), in the last two years, which shows that there is a steady improvement in grassroots development.

“Kwara’s youth football ecosystem is about the most vibrant in the country with loads of grassroots tournaments happening every month, including the Kiddies Cupties.

“With two additional stadia to support the one in Ilorin, the sky can only be the limit for what the state can contribute to the country’s sports industry,” said Ayodeji.

He further added that SWAN will watch the progress of the appropriation bill with kin interest.

“This is because robust grassroots development plans and execution makes for better elite sports exploitation. This is where the money and returns on investment lies.

“On our part in SWAN, through the support of Taiwo Awoniyi, Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest attacker, we are building a sports Media Center specially for sports brand and marketing of Kwara talents,” Ayodeji said.
