Coach Aliyu Zubairu leaves Egypt’s Telecom SC, takes over at Sudanese giants Al Ahli Madani

Highly-rated Nigerian tactician, Coach Aliyu Zubairu, has officially ended his association with Egyptian second-tier side Telecom SC and has been unveiled as the new head coach of Sudanese club Al Ahli Madani.

Zubairu’s departure from Telecom SC was reached through a mutual agreement between both parties, bringing to an end a productive spell that significantly enhanced the club’s competitiveness and reputation within Egyptian football.

Confirming his exit, the former El-Kanemi Warriors Manager expressed gratitude to the club’s management, players, technical crew and supporters for the opportunity to serve.

“It was a mutual agreement reached with a clear understanding between myself and the management of Telecom SC. I sincerely appreciate the club’s management, the players, the technical crew and the wonderful supporters for the opportunity to serve. I wish the club nothing but success in the future,” Zubairu stated.

Although he joined Telecom SC in November 2025, the Nigerian coach quickly established himself as a key figure at the club. Under his guidance, Telecom SC enjoyed an impressive campaign, reaching the semi-finals of the Egyptian FA Cup after knocking out several top-flight teams.

The club also recorded commendable performances in the Egyptian Second Division League, further underlining the impact of his tactical leadership.

Zubairu revealed that discussions surrounding his departure were cordial and conducted in a spirit of mutual respect.

“I had a sincere conversation with the club President. He told me that although it pains him to see me leave, he also believes I know what is best for my career. I truly appreciate his understanding and the confidence he showed in me throughout my time at the club,” he said.

Shortly after leaving Egypt, the accomplished coach secured a new challenge, with Sudanese powerhouse Al Ahli Madani announcing his appointment as head coach. He replaces Farouk Jabra, whose tenure with the club recently came to an end.

The appointment represents another major step in the career of the Nigerian tactician, whose reputation continues to grow across the African football landscape.

Before his move to Egypt, Zubairu enjoyed remarkable success in Nigerian football. He guided El-Kanemi Warriors to the 2024 President Federation Cup title and earned widespread acclaim for his tactical discipline and ability to build competitive teams.

He is also regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost promotion specialists, having successfully led both Gombe United and El-Kanemi Warriors from the Nigeria National League (NNL) to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

At the international level, Zubairu further enhanced his credentials by leading Nigeria’s Flying Eagles to the WAFU B U-20 Championship title. He subsequently guided the team to a bronze-medal finish at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and secured qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

His achievements in Egypt have further strengthened his standing as one of Nigeria’s most respected coaches, and expectations will be high as he begins a new chapter with Al Ahli Madani.

With a track record of success in club and international football, many observers will be keenly watching to see how Zubairu transforms the fortunes of the Sudanese side and adds another milestone to an already impressive coaching career.
