The Director of Sports in Kwara state, Mallam Ibrahim Alarape Atanda has assured the state’s Teqball Association of adequate support toward effective development of the game in the state.
Making the pledge during the exhibition games at the Kwara State Stadium Complex in Ilorin yesterday, the Director commended the Chairman, Mallam Yahaya Yar’Adua for his sacrifice.
He also thanked him for making Kwara state one of the leading states where the game has been introduced, even as he charged the association to lay a solid foundation for the game in the state.
He highlighted that part of the ways of laying a solid foundation will include engaging good and committed players, and also spreading the game to the nooks and crannies of the state, first, through the train the trainers programme, adding that the Council will work towards having a coach or two for the game.
In his address, the Chairman of the association, Mallam Yahaya Yar’Adua commended the Director for the acceptance and motivation, as he promised to work hard to produce a solid team for the state.
He added that the first assignment for the association will be to organise a train the trainers programme for coaches and officiating officials, so as to spread the game beyond Ilorin alone.
He explained that the game is all about basic techniques of football on a table board, and player or players can touch the ball to each other with nine body parts which includes head, shoulder, chest, back, leg, head, knee and heel, and has a unique officiating pattern.
Three types of games can be played, which includes Singles, Doubles and Mix Doubles, and it’s a non-contact game.
Other association members, members of Kwara All-Stars family, coaches, referees and others witnesses the exhibition games staged to officially introduce the game to the state.
