The stakes have been raised as Nigeria’s only female cricket league gets to the business end this weekend from 9th to 11th February 2024. The Port Harcourt-based Female Cricket Club, Pathfinders has promised to disrupt Idia Royals’ expectations when the two teams clash on Saturday’s opening game against Benin’s favourite team.

“We are Pathfinders, we look for a way to come out as the best in everything we do. We have been training very well for this competition. We will win this match against Idia Royals.”

The Team Manager of Pathfinder, Coach Florence was talking tough not minding if Idia paraded the best set of players in the female league.

The game against Idia Royals would be a tough one. We may have upcoming cricketers but we will have ‘help’ to conquer them this weekend.

From the ancient Benin Kingdom, Captain Favour Eseigbe’s tone was unshaken. Maybe she was blessed by the Warrior Queen Idia, to captain the Benin team. Eseigbe said her girls are, “expectancy, charged and ready to play”.

Although Idia Royals did not reach the Super Four in the last edition of the South-south Female Cricket League,  the team is so formidable that Pathfinders who have played in the last two Super Four editions look intimidated. However, Coach Florence has assured with God on their side and the girls disciplined in all areas of cricket, the result may turn favourable.

Pathfinders finished third in the second edition of the league. However, Idia Royals after the team was rejigged was training with lots of confidence. “The first 11 players can win any match” Captain Favour Eseigbe boasts.

Idia Royals have on lineup Lucky Piety, Shola Adekunle, Peculiar Agboya, and others. Pathfinders boast of Divine Uranta,  Fate Fyneface, Uwana,  Kafayat, and many U19 girls to chase a good result on Saturday.
