*Coach Tunde Asked to Step Aside

It was heartbreak for Kwara United today, Sunday October 5, 2025, as the team suffered a 0-1 home defeat to Abia Warriors in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 7 encounter at the Rashidi Yekini Main-Bowl of the George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

The Harmony Boys began on a bright note, dominating possession in the first half, but failed to convert the few chances that came their way.

Junior Aimufua and Adeshina Gata were impressive on the pitch, constantly troubling the Abia Warriors’ defense.

Despite spirited efforts from the home side, their attempts at goal were kept at bay as the Abia Warriors backline stood firm and resolute.

In the second half, the visitors came out stronger, and their efforts paid off when one of the Harmony Boys’ defenders handled the ball in the box.

The referee awarded a penalty, which Emeka Obioma calmly converted in the 48th minute to give Abia Warriors the only goal of the match.

Kwara United made several tactical changes and continued to press for an equalizer, but Abia Warriors held their ground to secure a hard-fought away victory.

Speaking after the match, Coach Tunde Sanni expressed disappointment over the result, but assured fans that the team would bounce back stronger, soon.

Kwara United currently sit 10th on the league table after six games and will face Kano Pillars on Wednesday in their outstanding Matchday 6 fixture.

Meanwhile, following the disappointing home loss, Club Chairman, Kumbi Titiloye confirmed to the club’s media that Coach Tunde Sanni has been asked to step aside as Technical Adviser.

He announced that Assistant Coach, Ashifat Suleiman will take charge of the team with immediate effect.
