Khadijat, Soliu win Atomike End of the Year squash tournament

The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji has commended the Governor of the state, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his effort in developing the game of squash in Nigeria.

The former squash champion and Coach made the commendation during the final of this year’s annual Atomike End of the Year championship, at the Squash Court last Tuesday.

Mallam Mogaji again, thanked His Excellency for the construction of new eight glass back squash courts, the first of it’s kind in Nigeria.

He added that the Governor has promised to sponsor U-13 and U-16 National Squash Championship in Kwara in January 2022, as part of the programmes for commissioning the courts.

He also encouraged all the players to concentrate on their trainings, so that they can make the state proud at the forth coming Squash Championship next year.

The sponsor of the competition, Deacon Mike Atoyebi thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq for appointing one of the members of the squash family as the Executive Chairman Sports Commission.

Deacon Atoyebi equally commended the Governor for renovating the existing squash court, and the building eight glass back courts for the Kwara.

He said that this year’s championship was to motivate the young athletes and encourage them to perform excellently, at the national championships.

In the Men’s Singles, Solihu Jamiu won gold, Shuaib Giwa won silver, while the duo of Taiye Ibrahim and Ibrahim Abdul Azeez won bronze.

In the Girls Single, Abdulkareem Khadija won the gold medal, Uswat Ibrahim won silver, as the duo of Loveth and Sukurat Sulyman settled for bronze.

The competition was supervised and coordinated by Coach Bilikis Mogaji, Coach Isiaka Mogaji, the Secretary of the Squash Association, Sheu Aliyu, and Tunde Yahaya, who is the Technical Director of the Association.
