Kwara FA Congress commends Governor AbdulRazaq on facilities, support for football development

The Congress of the Kwara State Football Association (KWSFA) has showered praises on the Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his unwavering commitment to sports development, particularly football, through the provision of modern sporting facilities and sustained support for stakeholders in the game.

The commendation formed part of the resolutions reached at the end of the KWSFA Congress held at the Football House, Ilorin, on Saturday, July 18, 2026.

The Congress specifically applauded Governor AbdulRazaq for creating an enabling environment for the growth of football in the state through the extensive upgrading of facilities at the Rashidi Yekini Main-Bowl of the George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

Members noted that the improved infrastructure has not only enhanced the standard of football competitions in the state but has also positioned Kwara as one of the leading sports destinations in Nigeria.

According to the Congress, the administration’s investment in sports infrastructure has provided local football clubs, players, coaches, referees and administrators with facilities capable of supporting talent discovery and development from the grassroots to the elite level.

The delegates further acknowledged the Governor’s consistent support for football and other sporting activities, describing his administration as one that has demonstrated a genuine commitment to youth empowerment and sports development.

Congress also passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the Kwara State Football Association under the chairmanship of Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa Thuraya, citing the association’s achievements in grassroots football development, talent discovery, competition organization and stakeholder engagement.

The gathering urged football stakeholders across the state to continue supporting the present administration’s efforts aimed at transforming sports into a viable platform for youth development, economic growth and social cohesion.

Members expressed optimism that with the continued support of Governor AbdulRazaq, football in Kwara State would witness greater progress, attract more investments and produce talents capable of excelling on national and international stages.

The Congress concluded by reaffirming its commitment to working with the state government, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and other stakeholders to sustain the growth and development of football across Kwara.
