As part of its commitment to grassroots sports development and talent discovery, the Kwara State Basketball Association (KSBA) will stage the maiden edition of the Secondary School Basketball Championship from May 6th to May 9th, 2026, at the Outdoor Basketball Courts of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

The championship is open to both public and private schools, primarily targeted at schools within the Ilorin metropolis, with the objective to identify emerging talents for this year’s Youth Games and Intermediate Games, according to the Secretary of the association, Bello Rotimi.

Activities will commence on May 5th, 2026, with a seminar/workshop for Games Masters, Coaches and technical officials by 10:00am at the Swimming Pool Pavillion.

The workshop will provide insights into coaching techniques, game regulations and athlete development, while the competition draws takes place immediately after the session.

Championed by the Kwara State Basketball Association, under the auspices of the Kwara state Sports Commission, with strategic inputs from the Kwara State Ministry of Education, the School Sports Department and the Association of School Sports Officers (ASSPO), participating schools and stakeholders have been advised to take advantage of this opportunity to contribute to the growth of basketball in the state.
