The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Magaji has commended the Kwara State chapter of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) for their outstanding performance in winning the 21st edition of the Chief of the Naval Staff U-14 Football Championship held in Kaduna State.
In a statement, the Executive Chairman praised both the players and the executives of YSFON, for their sterling performance, discipline, and determination throughout the tournament.
Responding to the commendation, the Chairman of Kwara YSFON, Prince Ademola Kiyesola, lauded the resilience and commitment of the players, highlighting the physical and mental strength they exhibited during the championship.
The official presentation of the trophy to the Kwara State Sports Commission was witnessed by several notable figures, including the Vice Chairman of Kwara YSFON, Alhaji Gesinde Adedeji Fregene; State YSFON Secretary, Mallam Wahab Ayinde, the National Welfare Officer of YSFON, Alhaji Ahmed Abdullah; Director of Sports at the State Sports Commission, Mallam Ibrahim Oladele Bako; and veteran Coach, Samuel Elijah (MON).
As champions, the Kwara team has earned qualification to represent Nigeria at the prestigious World Youth Cup in Norway later this year.
On their road to the victory, the Kwara lads defeated Nasarawa 1–0, Oyo 3–0, and Bayelsa 4–1 in the group stage.
In the quarter-finals, they overpowered Bauchi 4–0, edged past host Kaduna on penalties after a goalless draw in the semi-finals, and clinched the title by defeating Enugu State 1–0 in the final.
The remarkable achievement underscores the growing impact of grassroots football development most especially, kwara Kiddies league in Kwara State.
