The artificial turf that was removed from the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex in 2022 is gradually rotting away at the premises of the Complex, with no plan whatsoever to reinstall it, as earlier planned.

The artificial turf was installed in 2011, when the Mini-Bowl was converted to Main-Bowl, but was gradually wearing out as at the time it was removed in 2022. It was to be installed in one of the training pitches at the State Stadium Complex.

The artificial grass of the Stadium Complex, which was constructed and commissioned in 1977 was laid in 2011, and was removed immediately after the close of the 2021/2022 NPFL season, owing to popular demands.

Following the development, all the home games involving Kwara United FC in the 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup were played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos. The club also played its 2022/2023 NPFL matches in Ibadan and Akure.

The plan then was to renovate and modernize Oloffa Stadium in Offa, to ensure that Kwara United temporarily relocate their home matches there, pending when natural grass will be installed at the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex in Ilorin.

It would be recalled that Reform Sports West Africa had earlier submitted bid to modernize the Oloffa Stadium.

Since 2022, the removed artificial turf was heaped in one location at the Stadium, and may have spoilt beyond its usefulness again.

Many variables were taken into consideration in arriving at the decision to adopt the conversion of the pitch of the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex to natural grass, with questions raised as to its suitability to host Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matches involving Kwara United Football Club ahead of the commencement of the 2021/2022 season.
