The maiden edition of the Àbúrò Gomina football competition 2025, held in Oke-Oyi, the headquarters of Ilorin East Local Government came to glamorous conclusion yesterday, June.12, 2025, at the Òkè-Oyi Ọjà Community Secondary School, with Oke-Oyi United emerging champions after beating Big Star Football Club of Iponrin 4-1 on penalties.
The match ended one-goal apiece at regulation time.
The match took off on frenetic note, with the two teams being equally matched, as fans in attendance were treated to the best of soccer artistry.

But Oke-Oyi United took the lead in the first half, with a goal that sent the home crowd into a rapturous celebrations..Big Stars football club of Iporin then turn on the pressure which drew a number of breath-taking saves from the home goalkeeper, who for a long time stood between the Iponrin boys and the equaliser.
The equaliser eventually came, midway into the second half. The tempo of the game then increased with an end-to-end action creating goal-scoring opportunities that were never converted.
It was a rain of cash gifts for the boys as the dignitaries in attendance appreciated the talents of the players.
The match was preceded by a novelty match match between Team Aburo Gomina, led by Comrade Abdulmajeed Abdulwahab Temidire, popularly known as Aburo Gomina, comprising friends, and political associates, and Team-Organiser, led by, Hon. Toyeeb Ibrahim Olamikekan Ọmọoseeparo, in what could be described as an appetizer.

The match which lasted 10 minutes per half ended in 1-1. And coincidentally, the goals for each of the sides were scored by their respective Captains, Aburo Gomina and Ọmọ ó Ṣeé Paro respectively. Àbúrò Gomina team won 4-2 on penties.
The competition hosted by Hon. Abdulmajeed Abdulwahab Temidire (Àbúrò Gomina) and sponsored by Hon. Ibrahim Olalekan Toheeb Ọmọ osee paro, was held to commemorate six years of unprecedented achievements of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in office.
The representative of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at the ocassion, Hon. Abolore Afeez, who is the Commissioner for Agriculture commended the organisers for appreciating the achievements of Governor AbdulRazaq in a big way.
The Chairman of Ilorin East Local Government, Hon. Lukman Agbelere and his Ilorin West counterpart, Hon. AbdulRahman Ladan described the Moment as commendable, especially serving the purpose of sports and youth development, and celebrating the Governor.

Hon. Abdulmajeed Abdulwahab Temidire (Àbúrò Gomina) in his speech, said that the competition was significant as it commemorates six years of remarkable achievements and people-centre’s governance under the leadership of Governor AbdulRazaq.
He commended the sponsor and all those who supported the competition, for the honour.
Àbúrò Gomina dedicated the awargiven him to Governor AbdulRazaq.
The sponsor, Hon. Toheeb said that football is one of the love languages that unifies all, and because Aburo Gomina is a loving personality, they decided to honour him with the tournament.
12 team participated in the competition which brought the best out of the youth of the community and it’s environs.
Among those in attentance was the representative of the Commissioner for works, Hon. Quowiyy Olódodo, the Baálé of Oke-Oyi, Mallam Soliu Abdulqodri Odedeyi, who was the Royal Father of the Day. The Kwara FA was also represented by Alhaji Ahmed Abdullah, and also the Chairman of Ilorin East Football Council, who was represented by Morawo Moshood.
Other awardees at the ocassion are the Baale of Oke-Oyi, Pastor David Ajeigbe, Alhaji Akeem Afolabi, the Majeobaje of Oke-Oyi, Alhaji AbdhlSalam Yusuf, the Agbaakin of Oke-Oyi, Alhaji Kamaldeen Agboola, Okaomo of Oke-Oyi, Alhaji Mohammed Salaudeen ota, the Asiwaju of Oke-Oyi, Alhaji Ismail Olayemi Apase, the Oluomo of Oke-Oyi, Alhaji AbdulRahman Taiye, the Babalaje of Oke-Oyi and Professor Dimeji Alao.
