The qualification of Kwara United Football Club for the final of the 2025 President Federation Cup has been celebrated by the State Football Association, as the body equally congratulated the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for breaking new grounds.
Speaking to newsmen after Kwara United dismissed Rangers International in the semi-final of the President Federation Cup competition at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos yesterday, Wednesday May 21, 2025, the Chairman of Kwara FA, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa said that the ticket is worth the commitment of the state government on sports development.
Accoording the Mallam Idris, popularly known as Thuraya, “It’s a worthwhile experience and achievement, which started with the administration of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and it’s hoped that we will continue to break new grounds with his support.
“You will recall that he bought a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) slot as replacement for a Nigeria National League (NNL) slot when he took over as Governor, and with his support, the team has spent six unbroken seasons in the apex league, and that is unprecedented.
“We are now in the final of the President Federation Cup for the first time in history, and we do hope we will go further to win the trophy. All these are great achievements, under a sports loving Governor, Mallam AbdulRazaq.
These and more, are all down to his investment, and commitment to sports development. The Governor’s contineous interventions in this sector is unprecedented, and the qualification for the final is just a manifestation of his overall support.
Kwara United yesterday defeated Rangers International of Enugu by a lone goal to win a final ticket, and will play Abakaliki FC, which also edged Ikorodu City 4-3 on penalties, in the second semi-final in the final.
Wasiu Alalade scored from Junior Aimufua’s assist in the 51st minute, and that was enough to seal Kwara United ‘s passage into the final.
Kwara United hasn’t gotten this far in history, but a team from the state, in 1976, then being financed by a business tycoon, late Alhaji Yusuf Salami, bulldozed their way to the final, which they lost by 2-0 to the same team, Rangers International of Enugu.
