Sokoto state in Gateway Games to win medals – Commissioner

Sokoto state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Engr. Mustapha Mohammed has said that the state came to the Gateway Games 2024 with only one aim, which was to win medals.

Speaking to journalists at the Alake Sports Centre in Abeokuta, the youthful Sokoto state Cabinet member averred that the athletes and officials have the determination, the push and the support from the Governor of the state, Dr. Ahmed Aminu.

“There is nothing wrong been greedy, and there is nothing wrong hoping for more. We are here at the festival to win medals, not for jamboree.

“And that was why I am moving from one venue to the other, where our athletes are competing, to let them know I am here for them. We will win as many medals as possible, and take them to the seat of the Caliphate.

“His Excellency, Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu asked me to be here, stay with the athletes and motivate them to perform. The medals will come, surely.

“We are performers. We have the determination, we have the push, and we have the support from our leader, the Executive Governor of Sokoto state. We will end this festival with medals”, he assured.

Sokoto came to Gateway Games with 113 athletes and officials, and are competing in 11 events, including handball, which is their favourite sport.

The Commissioner praised Ogun state for staging an excellent opening ceremony which he described as superb and world class.
