SWAN @60: Bayour Issah to be honoured with Veteran Sports Journalist award

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has named veteran sports journalist, Bayour Issah, among distinguished honourees for the SWAN @60 Veteran Sports Journalist Award.

In a formal letter dated October 13, 2025, and signed by the SWAN Secretary-General, Ikenna Okonkwo, the association announced that Issah was selected for special recognition as part of activities marking the SWAN Diamond Jubilee Celebration scheduled to hold from October 29 to 31, 2025, in Abuja.

The letter described the honour as a recognition of Issah’s outstanding contributions, professionalism, and enduring service to the growth and integrity of sports journalism in Nigeria.

It noted that his commitment, mentorship, and passion for the craft have inspired generations of journalists and enriched the country’s sporting narrative.

“As a valued pioneer and pillar of our profession, this recognition is a token of appreciation for your sacrifices and legacy in promoting excellence, fairness, and credibility in sports reporting,” the letter stated.

SWAN said it looks forward to celebrating Issah during the SWAN @60 Award and Appeal Fund Ceremony slated for October 31, 2025, at the VIP Lounge, Package A, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Issah, who is a respected member of the SWAN Kwara State Chapter and Publisher of Sportspro News has been widely acknowledged for his decades-long contribution to sports reporting, mentorship of younger journalists, and unwavering dedication to the advancement of sports journalism in Nigeria.

The Secretary-General, on behalf of the National Executive Committee and members of SWAN, extended the association’s warm congratulations and best wishes to Issah.
