Chairman of the Kwara State Football Association (Kwara FA), Alhaji Idris Abdullahi Musa Thuraya, has expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for sponsoring his trip to Morocco to witness the ongoing 14th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Governor AbdulRazaq sponsored Thuraya’s attendance at the continental football showpiece as part of his administration’s commitment to encouraging football stakeholders in the state and strengthening support for Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, at the championship.
Speaking from Morocco, Thuraya described the Governor’s gesture as another demonstration of his unwavering commitment to sports development and the welfare of football stakeholders in Kwara State.
He noted that the opportunity to witness the tournament firsthand would not only boost the morale of football administrators from the state but also expose them to global best practices in football administration and tournament organisation.
The Kwara FA Chairman thanked Governor AbdulRazaq for his consistent investment in sports, stressing that the sponsorship was not the first time he and other sports stakeholders had benefitted from the Governor’s generosity.
According to him, “similar gestures over the years have continued to inspire administrators, athletes and officials, reflecting the Governor’s passion for sports development both within Kwara State and across Nigeria”
Thuraya reaffirmed the commitment of the Kwara State Football Association to complement the government’s efforts in developing football from the grassroots and sustaining the state’s growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading football hubs.
He also wished the Super Falcons success as they continue their quest for another continental title. Nigeria have progressed to the quarter-finals of the championship after finishing second in Group C, following hard-fought encounters against Malawi, Zambia and Egypt.
The Super Falcons are now focused on advancing further in the competition as they seek to reclaim the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations crown, with the backing of football-loving Nigerians and stakeholders.
